Retail Stores and Training Centers
GROW Nebraska has year-round retail stores and training centers in the Hilltop Mall in Kearney, Conestoga Mall in Grand Island, and Omaha Eppley Airfield. There is an additional temporary location at the Nebraska State Fair. These retail centers are much more than just retail outlets. They provide members with a chance to learn valuable skills in displaying product, running the cash drawer and other retail necessities. These locations are an effective test market. By working directly with consumers, members are able to see what sells and why.
GROW members also gain the opportunity to network with other entrepreneurs and learn how to create gift baskets that appeal to specialty markets or even work together to produce combination gift baskets. The collaborative nature of this project allows members to present their products in prime retail space they would not be able to afford as an individual business.
Prior to the opening of each holiday season, training is provided on display techniques in conjunction with a networking meeting. Members selected for the retail training program receive a stipend above minimum wage while receiving on-site technical training on how to run a credit card processing machine, effective product display, how to use a scanner with a point of sale system and how to interact with potential customers.
GROW Nebraska uses recycled products whenever possible. If you would like to return any glass or plastic containers from our member products we will be sure to get it back to them. GROW Nebraska also utilizes recycled boxes and packing to fill eCommerce orders whenever possible. If you would like to donate packing peanuts, bubble wrap, or boxes (that are in good shape and do not have printing) please feel free to drop them off at our store.
Commission & Fees: GROW Nebraska commission rate is 60-40. Member business receive 60% of the retail price. The retail stores/training centers are designed as market testing centers. Members are encouraged to have their brochures and business cards besides products. Many members receive retail and wholesale orders due having products in the GROW Nebraska Stores. Due to the expense of running of the stores Central Plains Foundation Board has mandated that a 5 to 15% surcharge may be charged on products in the stores to help cover costs.
