I Am Banning New Year’s Resolutions!

Filed Under: All Posts, Janell on January 18, 2010

I usually have a ritual every year I sit down with my husband and we make a list of our goals and objectives for the New Year. Originally I thought this would be a wonderful learning experience for my children. However, it has become a nightmare! You wouldn’t believe how long I procrastinated writing this blog. However, today is January 18 I still have 347 days to improve my life at least 1%. This year I am going to focus on resolutions that aren’t so hard to keep. Please notice; losing weight was not on the list.

Most of us know that success is not by chance; it begins with a well-conceived plan. I know that I will achieve more in the next year with a disciplined plan of action. I am going to focus my efforts on my New Year’s Resolution goals, which will give me a platform for starting an improved me. This year I’m determined to try harder and I plan to succeed. My goal is to achieve at least 6 out of the 11 goals. Hopefully more but I know being realistic is going to be important part of the journey.

Here’s the list.
1. Laugh everyday
2. Work out for 30 minutes four times a week
3. Read more – Nebraska has a number of wonderful authors I plan to read a couple of Annett Snyder’s novels, The History of Prayer in America and J & L Lee Co have a number of interesting books on Nebraska.
4. Keep my email inbox to fewer than 100 emails. This will be a challenge most of the time my inbox has over 400 emails in it.
5. Review the GROW Nebraska Strategic Plan quarterly. Every business should have a business plan and most of the time after we write them they just collect dust. This year I will review the GROW Strategic Plan with staff and consultants quarterly
6. Eat more fruits and vegetables daily. I just read an article about John LaLane who at 95 still looks great, lives at home with his wife and eats a number of raw vegetables and fruits very day. He also works out two hours a day – I am more likely to handle the eating part.
7. Learn Something New – continue my commitment to be a lifelong learner
8. Spend more time with the Family
9. Help Others
10. Eat beef three to four times a week. I need lots of vitamin B to stay on top of my game. Lean beef seems to be the answer in helping me stay up beat. Nebraska Famous Steaks, Nebraska Finest Meat, North Star Neighbors and Seifer Farms Pasture Poultry make it easy for me to purchase natural and even organic beef, poultry and pork.
11. Buy Local – help my local economy by purchasing as many products as possible from local businesses and artists. This is my bonus resolution. I already make most of my purchases from local vendors, but I can always improve!

So, that’s my New Year’s Resolutions and as much as I hate to admit it I am not banning New Year’s Resolutions. It not too late to write yours down and see how successful you are at keeping them. Mine are hanging on the wall in my home office. Here’s to a great 2010!
