It’s the Almost Wonderful Time of the Year

Some holiday seasons run smoother than others; so far this hasn’t quite been my year. Although Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, my pre-holiday season hasn’t been the most cheerful, but I have high hopes of a major improvement. On Saturday on my way to work at the GROW store, my back window exploded into my back seat. I repeat – MY BACK WINDOW EXPLODED (it had to be due to my rear defrost which I had on). Luckily I was only a block away from my house and I was physically unharmed. Ironically, as I was pulling out of the driveway minutes before my dad jokingly said, “be safe out there today.”

My sarcastic reply was “yeah, it’s pretty dangerous at the GROW store…have to look out for exploding bottles of BBQ sauce.” So I’m sure you can imagine when it sounds like someone is shooting at me that my mind started to wonder about whether I remembered to take the BBQ sauce I’d bought the day before into the house when I got home that night.

Although I won’t bore you with the other little grating things that have been plaguing my holiday season thus far, I couldn’t help but give you my new version of “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.” Here it goes:

It’s the almost wonderful time of the year
With back windows exploding
Big storm is foreboding, causing you fear
It’s the almost wonderful time of the year.

It’s the crap-happiest season of all
With your products depleting and conference call meetings
What happened to Fall?
It’s the crap-happiest season of all.

There’ll be last-minute shopping
No time for bar hopping
And traveling out in the snow.

There’ll be friends that you missed
On your holiday list
So no gift to them you bestow.

It’s the almost wonderful time of the year.
There’ll be much grumbling
At your holiday flings
When loved ones are austere
It’s the almost wonderful time of the year.

The good news is we still have a couple days left until Christmas, we have a baby due in our family any day, we are all in good health and after all shopping and work calms down for a few days, I can take time to reflect on the real reason for Christmas.

I hope you all have a safe and merry Christmas (and that none of your back windows blow up during holiday travels)! And if any of you have had a few things not going your way during the holidays, feel free to share.
