I Get By With a Little Help From My Friends

Picture-13More independent than the Statue of Liberty, my two-year old niece has decided that she can do everything on her own…including putting on her diaper (which she is pretty close to mastering). A couple of Sundays ago we had a family gathering and as my sister and her family went to leave, “little missy” walked over to the van. Grandpa being the chivalrous man that he is, picked her up, carried her to the door and started putting her in her car seat. Needless to say, that is not quite how Miss Independent wanted it.

My niece threw a tantrum and when my dad figured out that she wanted to do it by herself put her back on the ground by the door of the van. Kendellen then proceeded to walk back to the bumper, the exact spot where grandpa had shackled her independence, did an about face, walked back to the van door, climbed in the van and buckled herself in her car seat.

Sometimes we can’t help but want to be independent and show the world that we can do it on our own. Other times, we are just too stubborn to ask for help or we don’t want to feel inferior. (Don’t worry, you are talking to a bona fide stubborn Miss Independent myself). However, too many times I’ve learned the hard way that asking for help could have saved a lot of time and heartache.

Being part of the GROW staff has taught me that I am only part of the puzzle. Yes, I know a lot about certain aspects of marketing and writing, but together as a team, the GROW staff can tackle almost any task (maybe even a tire change…but don’t push us too far).

If you have questions or need marketing and networking advise, we encourage you to call or write in to GROW. Let us be your friend and help you when you could use an extra hand (and are tired of trying to be independent all the time.)
