Freezing Sweet Corn

There is nothing like cleaning up the kitchen after a day of freezing sweet corn. What a sticky mess! The kids and I decided to freeze sweet corn this year, a ritual we haven’t done for several years. In fact, my eight-year-old never remembers doing it!
I remember growing up it was an annual event in our home. My grandma would come out for the day and we would pick, shuck, blanche, cool, cut and freeze corn all day long. At the time it didn’t seem that special, but now when I look back I realize what a great time and learning experience it was for me.
This time it was just me and three of my kids. We only froze about 40 bags, but it taught them the value of working together. Hopefully they will take this experience with them as they get older.
Just as my kids are learning the value of working together, it is important you work together with partners in your business. Partners on your team may include an accountant, attorney, banker, marketers, and GROW Nebraska. Each player has an important role. Your accountant makes sure your books are correct so you don’t have problems with the IRS. The attorney makes sure all of the necessary papers are filed.
Just as each of the kids had an important role freezing sweet corn so does each of the partners on your team. Are you using your team? Your GROW team focuses on marketing your product and service by providing tips on pricing, packaging, labeling, and shipping among other important business aspects. We are also available for technical assistance and other questions you may have about your business. Let us know if we can assist you.
